Why Women Wear Waist Beads

I have been wearing Waist Beads since birth.  Waist beads are a traditional African adornment made of small glass, plastic and other gem beads and trinkets on a string worn around the waist.  When I was young, my mother put them on me to track my growth and through teenage years to make sure I wasn't getting over weight, that's what she told me.  As I have grown up, I see now it could have also been to track if I were to get pregnant. Either way, I wore them, my sisters wore them, my mom wore them, my aunties wore them.  We all did.

I remember the day I put on the first set of beads that I bought for myself.  I saved up and bought some with some special crystals and gems. I couldn't wait to put them on.  I was older now, so this time, I wanted to wear my beads low on my waist so they sit on top of my hips.  I had been dating someone special, and I wanted to impress him in my swim suit at the beach party.  When I put them beads on low and had them weaving in and out of my swim suit, I was a new woman.  I had his attention and too many eyes around me to the point of discomfort!  I learned that day my level of sexy, I have been confident with my body ever since.

Why Waist Beads Are Worn?

Intimacy, Beauty & Confidence

Waist Beads are the sexiest body accessory you can wear.  The reaction I have gotten from men when we get intimate is always one of intrigue and sensuality.  They always get complimented and from that moment on they always want to see what they look like on me.  Try having sex again without beads after you have worn them.  Your partner will not like it.  Try for yourself!

If it is their first time seeing a woman in waist beads or being with a woman in waist beads, he is going to lose it.

Maturity

Traditional in many parts of West Africa (and other parts of the world), beads are associated with womanhood and maturity.  In my home country of Ghana, some tribes put waist beads on their babies during the babies naming ceremony.  In some places they are adorned as a tradition to show a girl transitioning to a woman.

Body Shaping

Wearing waist beads from childhood also helps shape the body for smaller waist and larger hips.

Ancestral Heritage

Woman from all over the world wear waist beads.  As a West African, I am proud to say the oldest known origins of it are of African culture.

Waist Beads have a rich history.  I am proud to carry on the tradition and help others do the same.

But honestly let's face it, Waist Beads are Sexy AF.
